Green Hand Middle School Workshops
The SRA Green Hand Workshops are for Middle School grade students. The program gives a basic understanding of organic vegetable gardening and citrus orchard cultivation. The organic vegetable gardening program teaches the students how to propagate vegetables from seed, vegetable garden maintenance and harvesting the vegetable crops. Every student will have an opportunity to plant different varieties of vegetable seeds, be involved in growing the vegetables, harvesting and eating the vegetables. The students will also learn about composting by working in our compost bin. The students will grow both winter and summer vegetable crops. All students will assist in the maintenance of the citrus orchards and harvest the fruit when the fruit is in season. Lectures are also given on plant science such as pollination, functions of the different parts of plants, such as the roots, stems, leaves and the flower.
